oooo, so excited.

It is SO EXCITING to have an apartment to move into! YAAAAAAY!

This one even has mail delivery - most places on the island don't, of course. But some larger condo complexes do - so we'll have mail delivered to our apartment rather than to the post office in Hagatna. It's so... luxurious!

Hee hee hee.

I've had to resign myself to living without a dishwasher. I do not approve! But according to the realtor, fewer than 5% of properties in Guam have dishwashers. It might be because the water supply here is so unreliable - for example, the southern half of the island has had its water cut off for over a week. They just have to deal with it. In these conditions, maybe having a dishwasher is just silly.

So, I bought a dish rack and a dishpan - actually, couldn't find a dishpan so I bought a tupperware tub of about the same size - and last night, just for fun, I washed dishes after dinner (in the past I've left them piled in the sink to pick at them, one at a time, until they're all clean. Inefficient and bad housekeeping! But then, I didn't have a dishpan or a dish rack). It felt so nineteenth-century! Though I guess the dish rack was a 20th-century invention...
Old-fashioned, anyways.

UPDATE: More about water! Trouble! Check it out:

The "upper elevations of Chalan Pago" ... I think that our building is in a little dip, a little valley, so perhaps we won't be affected too much. Still, it brings it close to home - it will be home! - that this island is not really what we've been used to...

  1. I've heard that high efficiency dish washers use less water than washing in the sink, but I have no proof to back that up.

Best luck with the water situation. I was really afraid we'd have water shortage in SLC since winter was so short and un-snowy this year. However, this spring has been unusually rainy and it snowed on Monday, so maybe we'll be okay.
