Apparently Guamanians like baseball, but they don't obsess about it - there's no island-wide craze or anything, just a few people who play on the local leagues. We haven't been to a game yet, but the stadium is right on the beach, and tickets are cheap...
The WSJ wrote about Guam's baseball last year. The most telling quote comes at the end of the article: "For better or worse, life on Guam is pretty good, and few feel a need to leave for something better." It applies to more than just baseball. Things are good here. Not great, but good enough - and the weather is nice - and you're never more than a few minutes from the beach - and money isn't something you make, it's something brought in by foreigners and the Federal government. So why bother making an effort, when everything you need for a good life is already here? And what more would an extra effort bring you? Is it fair to say that a lackadaisical attitude is just a rational response to the conditions of Guam?
Sounds like an infinitely perpetuating cycle to me.
