So, Nick went to the Other Car's insurance claims department today. In person. Because they wouldn't talk to him on the phone.
There, he was snarked at by a rude receptionist ("the kind of receptionist you would want at your claims desk," Nick said).
And then he met the claims adjustor, who told him that we'd likely be looking at the value of the Alfa "on Guam."
...
How do you value the Alfa on Guam? It is (it was) the only one on Guam. And we weren't about to sell it.
Doesn't that make it priceless?
I fear this is going to be an interesting process, and not in the good way.
By the way, I picked up a copy of our accident report when I was at the police station to get my employment police clearance. The accident report fails to mention my existence. It fails to mention that Nick and I got hurt. Also, it gets the location of the accident wrong.
It would be funny, if it weren't so sad...

I am smelling a lawsuit. Get your medical bills ready, start a daily journal that details all of your pain and suffering, go get some massage and chiropractic, get pictures of the two of you trying to do your daily chores such as cooking and cleaning in your splints. (Make sure to wince). Loss of consortium, get some internet articles about Alfas, have your banking records pertaining to the purchase. I say hit those bastards hard...
ReplyDeleteMy initial response, "Wow that's terrible. Why can't insurance companies just do the right thing and what's wrong with the Guam police?" is starting to make me think that I should get a t-shirt that reads, "Victim". ^_^
