getting excited

A job! For real!

Yesterday I was too "ow ow ow my body hurts..." and "boo hoo hoo the poor car" to really feel the thrill of this, but today I'm taking painkillers and staying in bed and it's beginning to dawn on me...

1) I won't be unemployed anymore. That is, I can finally be a worthwhile member of society.
2) It's a really cool job. I get to fight bad guys... on Guam. (of course, the bad guys will just be petty shoplifters and public drunks and people who forget to pay their parking tickets and that kind of thing... but it is a start!)

3) Some people I admire very much started as prosecutors. Who knows where this may lead? (Which is not to say that I don't admire prosecutors, too. I never imagined I was cool enough to be one. Even if I don't do anything else in my career, I think I'll feel like I'm doing something worthwhile).
4) I can go shopping. Soon!
5) In this economy, Nick and I might just beat the odds.

Oh my goodness, praying mantis. In ancient days, in a mighty battle, maybe the praying mantis would have landed on the general's standard; and just at that moment, some un-hoped-for good luck might turned the tide of war in the general's favor. The general thereafter would have replaced his family's coat-of-arms with a praying mantis, out of a sense of obligation. I kind of feel that way now - if I had a coat-of-arms, the praying mantis would definitely be going on it. At least, I'm going to find myself a silver one for the charm bracelet...
