Nick is great

There hasn't been much news about Nick on here lately! Well, he has been working hard and doing well at his job. It's not something that presents itself as news, because it happens ever day, so it just doesn't get written about. But it's important!

Nick goes to work early every single day, even though the boss doesn't really care what time people arrive in the morning, because he says that is the easiest way to show that one is serious about one's job. Even though their office doesn't have a specific face-time requirement, he makes sure he is there all day every day. He takes short lunches, and he doesn't just run away as soon as 5:00 hits. He always dresses nicely for work, even though the standards on Guam are probably not as high as in other places. On court days he wears a jacket and tie, even though he doesn't really have to here, because he feels it is important to show respect to the court and the people whose rights are being determined. Even though it isn't the most glamorous or desirable job in the world, he takes it very seriously, because it's his job.

On softball nights, Nick does not always want to go - after a day at work, he would sometimes rather stay home and relax. Nothing would happen to him if he didn't go. Sometimes, too, the practices are pretty grueling! But he forces himself to go, because he knows it is important to stick with commitments. By participating so wholeheartedly on the team, he has made some good friends.

Nick may not be the most adventurous eater, but he would rather try something he doesn't want, than be impolite. We end up at a lot of potluck-type events, and people are always urging him to try unfamiliar foods they've brought. He is a good sport about it, and tries whatever he's offered - octopus salad, or chicken hearts and gizzards, or spam kelaguen - not because it's what he really wants in his mouth, but because he is willing to try.

He is good to me! He encourages me. He believes in me. He pesters me (in a supportive way) when I don't study enough, and he is a voice of reason when I'm grumpy or stressed (happens a lot lately!). He eats whatever I've made for supper, even if it's jambalaya for three days in a row. He even (pretends that he) enjoys it! He says nice things about me to other people. He wears his wedding ring every day. He doesn't complain about anything he could reasonably complain about - even if I don't make the bed, or haven't done laundry for days... He is always looking out for me.

But he's not a pushover. He's a good lawyer - but he never acts like a jerk to anyone. He sees the good in just about everyone, and understands other peoples' points of view. He makes friends with all kinds of people.

So, is there anything about him that isn't great? Well, not that I can think of. I just thought I should pass all of this along, in case anyone is wondering what he's up to these days.

  1. He should have a page on Facebook so I can 'like' him. Or a fan webpage with pictures of him doing things like coming out of his apartment with a paper on a Saturday. I'd read all the gossip!

  2. I think you are right... I'll get to work on that after the bar exam. Maybe start a Nick Barrett fan club... ;)
