Red Light

Running red lights is sort of an island-wide motorsport here. Nobody slows down when the light turns yellow. Nobody stops when the light turns red - the first few seconds of a red light operate like a yellow light in other places.

So, I was surprised today when I got pulled over after completing a turn as the light turned red. Oh, no!! I usually do stop (only to see the other lanes of traffic keep going for a few more seconds) ... but this time I was distracted and following the guy in front of me - and totally got busted for it.

But, the police officer didn't even get out of her car - she put down her window and admonished me "Stop next time!" ... and let me go.

So, that's good. It's nice to get off with a warning - and I will be more careful in the future! - and it's also nice to know that someone out there is actually trying to enforce the traffic rules.

  1. OK - I'm guessing this was NOT Nickie B!

  2. Nickie B was in the car with me yesterday afternoon, just after I told him about being pulled over. He said "red," but I didn't understand he was talking about the light ahead of us, so I ran that one too. And then he posted this comment as if it were me.
