Last Day in Houston...

PUT IT IN A BOX!!

There is too much to do: packing, sorting; goodwill trips, selling my car, and of course a really good dinner before heading out to parts unknown! We'll probably go to Laurier, where Nick once had a birthday dinner that he remembers fondly...

And for lunch? We have to get our fix of 100% Taquito! Will there be tacos on Guam?

Talley Cat is not impressed with any of these goings-on. She will, of course, be staying with her grannie in Houston, because she doesn't care for air travel.

Even now, we're not totally reconciled with the idea that we're moving out of the country, for a couple years at least and possibly for longer. It's all moving much too quickly! And that is probably for the best: if we had longer to think about it, we might conclude that this is just crazy...

Last night Nick had a phone chat with a lady attorney from Guam who has been helping us with all of our questions and setting us up with a temporary housing solution (and even a car!) for our first few days on the island. She seems so very nice and welcoming - everyone we've communicated with seems so eager to help! And they say that Guam has fiestas and parties all the time, and that everyone is invited who brings something tasty to share... it sounds a lot like New Orleans. In fact, the lady Nick spoke with last night told him that NOLA would be good training for Guam. She meant that in terms of the weather, but maybe the attitude and lifestyle are similar, too: people are friendly and things move slowly.

How slowly? While going through papers in preparation for the move, Nick found his original application to the AG's office - dated May 20 of last year. So it's been ten months' processing between application and starting work!

  1. Well, I hope the two years are fun, but I also hope they don't go *too* slowly.
