We went to CarMax and sold Dextor, the Honda Civic, for just about as much as I'd hoped to get for him on the open market - and in less than an hour.
Does anyone else feel a little disloyal when they sell a car? I keep thinking about the horses in Black Beauty, and the tragic things that happen to them when circumstances force their sale from their loving home. Now, I wasn't the most fastidious owner in the world, but Dex and I had some good times: from Michigan to Louisiana and back, to California, Washington State and finally Texas - he's been a great car! A loyal, hardworking little car that never let me down. I would have liked to keep him.
As it is, I sold him with some treasures in the glovebox: the original owner's manual, the factory brochure, a ton of maintenance records, and even the original window sticker - in the hopes that a buyer who appreciates these things will find him and appreciate him as I did.

I've never sold a car, but when I think about it, I bet it really would be hard. I've been thinking about trading mine in for one that has proper car-seat space, I feel a combination of blessed and annoyed that I'm too poor to actually do it though ^_^
