Nick started his position with a 6-month probationary period, after which his status changes to permanent, full-time employee. Well, he's about three weeks shy of the six month marker, but this week his boss went ahead and authorized him for permanent employment. Yay for that! I don't think there was ever any doubt, but it's nice to have done, all the same.
Here, I'm keeping busy. I heard one of our friends saying that even if you don't have a job on Guam, you'll always have things to do, because when people find out you're unemployed they'll ask you to do things for them. In addition to the dog-and house-sitting, we're doing some tasks for the lady I mentioned who just moved off-island. It's really great to be able to be helpful (and to be considered trustworthy enough to be asked to help).
Another friend is getting ready to go away on vacation - and to move from one apartment to another - so I said I'd help with the moving and cleaning, and Nick and I may be house-and dog-sitting for her in a couple of weeks, too. Since it's such a pain to go off-island, people tend to take single long vacations instead of short vacations throughout the year. Our friend will be gone for a couple of weeks, and it makes sense to have a housesitter in that situation, especially since there is a dog to care for, too. Plus, these days, you never know if the weather is going to turn nasty! The rainstorm that pestered us yesterday is now developing into a new tropical cyclone - I'm grateful that it waited until after it hit Guam!
So, there are plenty of distractions as we await my bar results... And this weekend will be the annual AG's office barbecue, plus a birthday party for a friend's one-year-old baby girl (yay!), and Monday is Nick's office fantasy football draft (which translates to a full day of hanging out with friends...). Lots to do on busy, busy Guam!
Don't you need to do Fantasy Hockey? I know some guys, but you'd have to join by tomorrow probably :D
