Yesterday afternoon we noticed a largish dead gecko on the porch. It was covered with ants. It was too revolting to contemplate even sweeping it up, so we left it there to deal with later.
Well, less than twelve hours later and there is little left but gecko skeleton. The ants, the horrible ants have cleaned off the entire thing. I've never seen anything like it. Scary, and SO disgusting!
Brookie Bee, are you a-pining
over ants on gecko dining?
Geckoes, like the things of man, you
with your nice thoughts, care for, can you?
Yes, and though the heart grows older,
it meets such sights not much colder,
by and by, and sighs a cry
when geckoes legion antmeal lie:
So you will weep, and know why.
Now no matter, spring or fall;
ants will dine upon us all:
No mouth had, no, nor mind, expressed
what heart heard of, ghost guessed:
it is the blight that man was born for.
It is Brookie Bee you mourn for.
Poor little geko.
