The "old familiar foe"

http://www.kuam.com/global/story.asp?s=12731765

Depriving Mongmong-Toto-Maite of its electric power must be to young brown tree snakes what cow-tipping is to young Indianians: "Guam Power Authority . . . says the snake managed to get into the Hagatna Substation causing residents to be without power for about a half-hour. . ."

But they don't say how the snake got in. Did he have a fake ID badge?

We didn't lose power yesterday morning, but we did lose it for an hour or so last Friday. We had just finished making supper, so we dined by candlelight. Romantic!

  1. Ho' dee doe' a moment. The news anchormen and Power Authority press releases actually blame the loss of power on brown toed tree snakes? I thought that was a joke.

BTW - Nice to point out the truth about Hoosier night life.

  2. Yeah. And then the guy says "we'll communicate with the USDA to find out where it might have come [in]. . ." So instead of going down and looking for holes in their structure, they have to call a federal agency?

I like the thought of the USDA working like the TSA and screening entries into the power substations, though: "Hey! You can't go in there! You're a snake!" "No way man - check out my ID!" "You stupid snake, this ID is fake."

The article says they've caught *thousands* in this way.

I forgot that you spent some time in Indiana! Did you tip many cows while you were there?
