In the context of the MTV Music awards

...which (having no TV) we didn't watch here, I think of Tolkien commenting on the language of Orcs in Lord of the Rings: 

"Much of the same sort of talk can still be heard among the orc-minded [of our society]; dreary and repetitive with hatred and contempt, too long removed from good to retain even verbal vigour, save in the ears of those to whom only the squalid sounds strong."

How many are there, now, to whom only the squalid sounds strong?
