So... we put in an offer on an apartment! YAY!!!
We found an apartment that was not ideal, but totally good enough. The trouble was that it was really overpriced for the market. For that reason, I guess, it has been on the market for four months now - a long time - because the price is so high. So, we made an offer for what we think would be a fair market price for it. If they take it, then we'll have an acceptable apartment at a decent value.
If they don't take our offer, there is another apartment coming on the market in the same complex, which should be newer and cleaner, with the same floorplan as the one we've offered on, and already at the price we think is fair. So if our current offer is rejected, we'll have a backup plan - we'll just have to wait another week or so for that other apartment to become available. We actually dont' like it as well, because it is in the middle of the building while the one we want is on the end of the building - but for a backup plan, it is perfectly eligible.
So, I am getting really excited. We'll find out by Monday evening whether they've accepted our offer - and if they do reject it, they may come back with a counter-offer.
This apartment is definitely still a compromise - there just isn't much on Guam that wouldn't be a compromise in some area - but it covers our priorities pretty well: a full-sized kitchen, laundry machines, a balcony for grilling out, and kittycats are allowed. It has a decent view onto a piece of jungle, and it even has two bathrooms - one for each of us! Will that be a recipe for marital success? At least it can't hurt!
My fingers are crossed for you!
