"Do you know what day it is?" I answered that it was the fourth of May. She shook her head as she said again:
"Oh, yes! I know that, I know that! but do you know what day it is?"
On my saying that I did not understand, she went on:
"It is the eve of St. George's Day. Do you not know that tonight, when the clock strikes midnight, all the evil things in the world will have full sway?"
...
On Guam, it's already the 6th of May. On the 5th of May, we had a couple of geckoes get into our room, but nothing terribly evil besides that.
I thought Nick would be working late, so I made Texas chili as a surprise - as it turned out, he was not much later than usual. But the chili was good - I used authentic Guamanian boonie peppers for the spice - and we drank gin-and-tonic while we waited for it to finish cooking. Which is almost the same as celebrating with Mexican food and margaritas!
In my world I got lots of people saying, "May the fourth be with you."
ReplyDeleteer... like Star Wars. It was kind of funny, but not really. Evil having sway is certainly more interesting.
